SENSIS RECEIVES CONTRACT TO PROVIDE MULTILATERATION SYSTEM TO CHARLES DE GAULLE AIRPORTDEWITT, NY - October 21, 2001 - Sensis Corporation, and its partner, NavControl received a contract from Aéroports de Paris (ADP) to provide a Mode S Multilateration system for Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France. The system uses multilateration and automatic dependent surveillance - broadcast (ADS-B) sensors to track aircraft from five nmi off the airport all the way to the gate. The Sensis system will enhance the existing final approach and surface surveillance system at Charles de Gaulle Airport by providing positive aircraft identification and precise positional data in all weather conditions. Charles de Gaulle Airport is the busiest airport in Europe, and serves as a hub for Air France and FedEx Express.
The Sensis system tracks all transponder equipped aircraft. It is designed to help increase the safety, capacity, and efficiency of all airport surface operations with a particular focus on maintaining safety and capacity during inclement weather. The system locates and identifies targets by utilizing small sensors on the airport surface that listen for transponder signals and triangulate them to determine the position of the signal's source. The transponder signals are also encoded with aircraft data which the sensors decode and provide to air traffic controllers. Traditional transponders typically provide aircraft identification and altitude information. Advanced Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) transponders also broadcast latitude, longitude, velocity and heading information - as determined by the on-board avionics and the Global Navigation Satellite System.
Sensis Corporation provides sensors and information technology to the world's militaries, civil aviation authorities, airports and airlines. The company designs, manufactures and installs multilateration/ADS-B ground stations for air and surface surveillance, and sensor data interface equipment for integrating new and legacy, surveillance and automation systems. Sensis equipment is deployed around the world, including more than 80 multilateration/ADS-B sensors and 700 data interface devices in 25 countries on five continents.
