FAA Identifies Syracuse and Milwaukee as Key Airports for ASDE-X, Adds Multilateration to LouisvilleDEWITT, NY - November 1, 2001 - Sensis Corporation is under contract to install Airport Surface Detection Equipment Model X (ASDE-X) Systems at General Mitchell International Airport, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Orlando International Airport, Orlando, Florida. In addition, Sensis will also install a temporary system at Hancock International Airport, Syracuse, New York.
Hancock International Airport, located only a few miles from Sensis Corporation headquarters, will receive a full ASDE-X system and will serve as an Interim Contractor Depot Level Support (ICDLS), a maintenance and controller training, enhancement testing, and performance monitoring facility. This system will not be used by air traffic controllers. Depending on the schedule for completion of a new air traffic control tower in Orlando, Florida, the FAA will conduct Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) of the ASDE-X system at Milwaukee, Orlando, or a combination of both.
The FAA has also placed an order under the ASDE-X contract for the multilateration portion of ASDE-X to be installed in Louisville International Airport, Kentucky. The system will be used to develop an interface between the existing ASDE-3 system and the ASDE-X system. A portion of the ASDE-X contract requires development of an ASDE-3/ASDE-X interface. The FAA Safe Flight 21 Program and the Cargo Airlines Association will also benefit from the ASDE-X efforts in Louisville. Louisville Airport is the primary hub for United Parcel Service and hosted the FAA, CAA and industry OpEval 2 demonstration in 2000.
Sensis Corporation is the FAA's prime contractor and system integrator for the ASDE-X Program and the designer and manufacturer of the multilateration and ADS-B surveillance sensors and the multi-sensor fusion processor. Raytheon of Marlborough, Massachusetts is providing the surface movement radar and tower displays components.
