Sensis to Supply Fusion Tracker and Interface for TIS-B Research at William J. Hughes Tech Center

DEWITT, NY - February 24, 2000 - Sensis Corporation has received a contract to supply a Multi-Sensor Tracker fusion processor and System Interface Unit (SIU) to integrate six air surveillance radars for Traffic Information Service-Broadcast (TIS-B) research at the Federal Aviation Administration's William J Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey. TIS-B utilizes ground based radar to determine an aircraft's position and broadcasts this information to other suitably equipped aircraft. The SIU will receive data from primary surveillance radars including ASR-9, ARSR-1E, ARSR-4 and secondary surveillance radars including ATCBI-5 and Mode S. The SIU is a highly modular data format and protocol converter that supports a variety of protocols, electrical standards and message formats.

The Multi-Sensor Tracker will fuse the data from the various radar sources to create a unified, accurate "best source" surveillance picture. The tracker will also integrate positional information transmitted from ADS-B equipped aircraft with the radar data. This multi-mode sensor integration will demonstrate the benefits of fusing multiple sensors during the transition from existing radar based surveillance to that of the ADS-B. All data will be output via the SIU in the All-purpose Structured Eurocontrol Radar Information eXchange (ASTERIX) format. Installation is scheduled for March '00.
